29 Juillet 2011 – Hier après-midi était lancé le coup d’envoi de la 6e édition d’OSHEAGA 2011. Un coup de sifflet pour trois jours de musique intense: 5 scènes où s’enchaîneront près de 70 shows, dans une bonne humeur et une énergie presque palpable!
Petit aperçu de cette première journée de festival tant attendue, couronnée par un show mémorable d’Eminem, pour lequel le public avait fait le déplacement des quatre coins du Canada et peut-être ailleurs! La quantité de t-shirts à l’effigie du chanteur, les regards hagards de certains durant le reste de la journée était univoque: seul le trublion du hip-hop américain comptait.
Et pourtant, quelques noms sont parvenus à éveiller les regards, lever les oreilles et même faire danser!

La dream team du rock indépendant canadien a envahi la scène, telle une bonne bande de potes contents de se retrouver pour jammer. L’ambiance était décidément festive, le backstage ne se désemplissait pas de tous les satellites musiciens, artistes, amis qui gravitent autour du collectif. Guitares, saxophones, trompettes, trombones, maracasses même se mêlaient joyeusement, tantôt de façon énergique et rythmée, tantôt sur des mélodies rock plus douces.
Mené par le charismatique Kevin Drew, tshirt noir et lunettes noires, le groupe a proposé un très bon moment de musique, dont on ne pouvait ressortir que le cœur léger, un sourire aux lèvres.

Le collectif musical montréalais, porté par James di Salvio, est remonté sur scène pour la seconde fois de l’été. Après une apparition aux côtés des joyeux loufoques Misteur Valaire au Festival de Jazz le mois passé, ils ont tenté de convaincre un public osheagien frileux avec un melting pot de styles. Tout y est passé: rock, reggae, électro, pop, trip hop, funk…et même une tentative de hip-hop difficile à apprécier pour les amateurs de Slim Shady.
Une parade de papillon géant coloré, quelques reprises d’anciens tubes comme drinkin in L.A, Astounded et un entraînant Love on the block ont tout de même réussi à faire bouger les mains en cadence, propulsés par quelques “get up! stand up! put your hands up!” scandé par le chanteur UV-yé, casquette Puma noire vissée sur la tête.

Le véritable coup de cœur de la journée revient à l’étonnante Janelle! Un show incroyable, porté par un sens de la mise en scène assez rare. Pas étonnant qu’elle ait voulu devenir danseur à Broadway avant de se tourner finalement vers la chanson. Janelle Monae est résolument une étoile montante, qui manie le sens du visuel et de l’esthétique avec brio. Costumes léchés, style dandy des années 50, pantalon noir, chemise cintrée blanche éclatante, cravate fine noire surmontée d’un nœud à paillettes, derbys et coiffure montée en banane, la miss a du swag et elle en joue!
Regards sombres ou coquins, puis grand sourire, elle revêt sa cape noire, s’en défait, se déchaîne sur la scène avec une énergie à la fois débordante et maîtrisée.
Petit pas de moonwalk, un hommage plus que réussi aux Jackson 5 avec une reprise de I Want you back sur lequel le public semble enfin se laisser toucher. La Monae promet de beaux moments de show et de musique, sa voix est puissante et renversante. Une artiste qui mérite une attention exclusive, dans une salle de concert, avec un public dédié. Le rendez-vous est pris!

21h30. Le public frétille, le parre-terre du festival, les gradins, tous les recoins sont pleins à craquer. L’impatience se fait ressentir. Tous sont venus assister au grand retour d’Eminem sur scène. Onze ans d’absence à Montréal. Des shows sporadiques. Une quasi absence depuis 2005. Des écrans nous rappellent que nous sommes là pour assister au rétablissement du provocateur égratigné par une vie lourde et chargée.
La scène s’illumine, sous les cris du public, un Eminem abîmé mais tout autant puissant s’impose, hoodie gris, casquette noire il se cache presque. Mais enchaîne ses premières chansons, se met à l’aise, jette son attirail et donne le ton avec son t-shirt “Bad meets Evil”.
La mise en scène est soignée, ombres de femmes qui se dévêtissent, images du quartier qui l’a vu grandir, 8 mile, défilement de tatouages, gouttes de sang qui perlent sur une vitre, kalashnikovs qui se promènent sur l’écran, explosion à faire sursauter un mort. Chaque détail est pensé, il mélange anciens tubes et nouveautés, que le public accueille avec un enthousiasme non dissimulé. Eminem pourrait presque couper son micro, le public connaît chaque chanson par cœur, et donne toute son énergie accumulée.
L’échange est intense, Eminem qui rappelle à quel point il aime Montréal à coup de “motherfuckers” répétés inlassablement. Ce mec est touchant, son énergie est incroyable même si pointe l’écorché vif qu’il est. L’évolution de ses chansons est comme un cahier ouvert sur ce qu’il est, son âme.
Tantôt provocateur, tantôt petit garçon blessé qui fait reprendre par la foule un “fuck you mom, fuck you dad”, tantôt séducteur et acteur. Le public l’a bien compris, il assiste à un grand show.
Mémorable.
